Sean Dunne
Sean Dunne is an American documentary filmmaker known for raw portraits of subcultures and overlooked corners of society, stripping away artifice to reveal the dignity, humor, beauty, and truth of life on the margins. Dunne’s career began with the short documentary The Archive (2008), which premiered at Sundance and was nominated for an Emmy, and American Juggalo (2011), a viral portrait of hardcore fans of Insane Clown Posse. His debut feature Oxyana (2013), an unflinching look at the opioid crisis in rural West Virginia, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it earned Dunne the award for Best New Documentary Director. He followed with the films Florida Man (2015) and Cam Girlz (2015) and received the Vanguard Award at the San Francisco Doc Fest in 2016. Since then Dunne has released eight films as part of a lifelong project to build a cinematic mosaic of America. His most recent feature, Wild Magic (2025), a kaleidoscopic road trip through modern mystical Americana, received the Artistic Vision Award at Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.
