David I. Strasser

David Strasser is a prolific, award-winning director and executive producer known for his versatility across mystery, thriller, procedural, romance, and elevated dramatic storytelling. His work reaches global audiences on major platforms including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hallmark Channel, and Lifetime Television, earning recognition from the Canadian Screen Awards, the Leo Awards, and the Directors Guild of Canada Awards. David recently wrapped production on the psychological ballet thriller Principal Girl, starring Jessica Lord and Briar Nolet, further expanding his work into darker, character-driven feature storytelling. He also directed Lifetime’s Love, Again (2026), starring Valerie Bertinelli, Eric McCormack, and Henry Czerny. The film won the 2026 Leo Award for Best Television Movie and earned David a nomination for Best Direction at the 2026 Directors Guild of Canada Awards. His recent portfolio also includes directing key episodes of UPtv’s procedural Blue Skies (2026) and serving as executive producer and director of Hallmark Mystery’s Nelly Knows Mysteries franchise (2024–2026), whose All Manners of Murder received the 2026 Leo Award for Best Screenwriting in a Television Movie. His romantic comedy The Wish Swap (2025) earned a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Direction and won the 2026 Leo Award for Best Choreography. A graduate of Vancouver Film School and the Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, David is an alumnus of the TIFF Filmmaker Lab and the Berlinale JETS Talent Lab. Known for his precise visual style and emotionally grounded performance direction, he continues to bring a cinematic sensibility to elevated, character-driven storytelling across features and episodic television.
